Interlaken (literally translates from Latin “Inter Lacus” – ”Between lakes”) is centrally located in Switzerland in the Bernese Oberland, between two Alpine Lakes – Thunersee and Brienzersee.
The town between the lakes is presided over by the 3 mighty mountains – “Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger”.
Interlaken’s reputation as international resort started around 1800 due to the landscapes of Franz Niklaus Konig and other Swiss landscape artists. Famous contemporaries such as Felix Mendelssohn and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe traveled in these mountains.
The area around the town presents a wide variety of activities and attractions, both during summer and winter. There’s bungee jumping, hang gliding, superlative skiing, canyoning, paragliding, toboggan rides, rock climbing, snowboarding, river rafting, … all with amazing views of the mountains. Plus, this amazing town is small enough that you can pretty much walk everywhere, as long as you have nice weather!
